Genuine sapphire crystal

The crystal is the transparent cover protecting the dial. There are three common grades:

• Acrylic — plastic. Cheap, scratches if you look at it sideways.
• Mineral glass — hardened glass. Better, but still scratches with daily wear.
• Sapphire — synthetic sapphire, second only to diamond in hardness (9 on the Mohs scale).

316L surgical-grade steel

Compared with the cheaper 304 steel found in fashion watches, 316L resists rust and skin reactions far better and takes a finer brushed-and-polished finish.
